Cropping or resizing?
They are often confused, and they do opposite things:

They combine well: crop to the shape you need, then resize the result down to the pixel dimensions it will actually be displayed at.
Picking an aspect ratio
- 1:1 — profile pictures, product thumbnails, Instagram squares.
- 4:3 — the classic camera and presentation shape.
- 3:2 — standard 35mm photography, and most print sizes.
- 16:9 — video thumbnails, hero banners, slide decks.
- 9:16 — vertical stories and short-form video.

How do I crop an image online?

What is the difference between cropping and resizing?

How do I crop a PNG without losing transparency?
Choose PNG as the output format. Transparent areas inside the crop stay transparent. Note that JPG cannot store transparency at all, so exporting a transparent PNG to JPG fills those areas with white.
